Good to know
Yes, and it's known for it. Sayulita has a long-standing reputation as one of the more family-friendly towns on this coast, with active tourist police and a strong sense of community. Normal travel precautions apply, same as anywhere, but this isn't the Mexico people picture from the news.
Really good food, a beginner-friendly surf break right in town, jungle hikes, art galleries, and a laid-back, artsy pace that's drawn people here since the surfers first found it decades ago. It's less a checklist of attractions and more the town itself.
Very, most of the year. You'll see as many local families on the beach as visitors, with gentle water close to town and enough going on that kids don't get bored. One honest note: during Semana Santa (the week before Easter) and around winter holidays, the town fills up and gets noticeably livelier, more crowds, more noise, closer to a party atmosphere. Avoid those dates for a quiet family week; if a bit of energy doesn't bother you, it still works fine.
Worth knowing before you book: much of Sayulita is cobblestone, with uneven or missing sidewalks in places. And the best ocean views usually mean elevation, hills and steps to reach them, not flat ground. If mobility is a concern, tell us before you book and we'll help you find a home that's easier to manage.
Punta Mita has resort properties, if that's what you want. Sayulita and San Pancho don't, no high-rises, no all-inclusive gates, just a real town with a beach at the end of most streets. Tell us which experience you're after and we'll point you to the right one.
